In 2018, the Wiley Elementary Foundation was formed by a group of concerned parents and administration. Faced with budget cuts to our award-winning magnet program, this group rallied together to raise funds and rethink how to keep all five world languages at Wiley, the only elementary school in the state to offer Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, and Japanese. Thus, the Wiley Elementary Foundation was born with a goal to create long-term sustainability to protect our teachers and program.
The Wiley Elementary Foundation extends deep gratitude to its founding and early Board members whose vision and commitment made the organization possible: Eva Garland, Daniel Gobel, Tonya Horton, Batch Noah, Josh Parrott, Emil Runge, and Principal Leslie Taylor.
Since then, the Foundation has continued to grow its support. Thanks to donor support in the 2022-23 school year, WEF presented Wiley Elementary School with $22,467 for supplemental teacher and staff salaries in 2023-24. This enabled an increase in the part-time employment of the school’s Magnet Coordinator and the increase of one language teacher’s job from four days a week to five. The language teacher’s fifth day per week allows Wiley to offer greater diversity in Friday elective topics at all grade levels and lower the student to teacher ratio. And in the 2023-24 school year, the Foundation increased its support to $30,000 to also help offset budget cuts that impacted the AIG (Academically and Intellectually Gifted) offering.
Thank you to all our generous supporters. Your support positively impacts the Wiley experience.
The Wiley Elementary Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity. Contributions may be deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. The tax ID/EIN# is 83-1196589.
In Summer 2024, the Wiley Foundation presented our administration with a check for $30,000 to supplement key areas of teacher and staff pay in the 2024-25 school year. Funds will supplement three areas: Friday electives, magnet program management, and now the AIG (Academically and Intellectually Gifted) program.
Working closely with Principal Avery in Spring 2024, the Foundation Board moved quickly to increase its financial support for our school when WCPSS applied a new AIG funding formula. While Foundation funds don’t completely offset AIG cuts, they do add more time for our AIG teacher to spend with students. Your contributions and support help fund critical resources needed to continue Wiley excellence. Thank you!
